Partner campaign: improving access to hands-on training in academic institutions
Apply for birthing simulatorsUniversity of Global Health Equity (UGHE) and Laerdal Global Health are inviting academic institutions in low-resource settings to submit an application to receive birthing simulators.
MamaBirthie and MamaNatalie are the two simulators included in this partnership campaign, and can be used to support healthcare personnel to better manage normal birth and birth complications, like postpartum hemorrhage (PPH). Successful applicants will also receive accompanying Helping Mothers and Babies Survive educational materials, to support training.
‘Global progress in reducing deaths of pregnant women, mothers and babies has flatlined for eight years… over 4.5 million women and babies die every year during pregnancy, childbirth or the first weeks after birth - equivalent to 1 death happening every 7 seconds - mostly from preventable or treatable causes if proper care was available.’ - World Health Organization, 2023
Well trained healthcare providers can make the difference between life and death – and regular hands-on simulation-based training can instil the confidence and competence needed to do just that.
Partnership aims
The partnership, and subsequent distribution of MamaBirthie and MamaNatalie simulators, aims to encourage academic institutions to strengthen their capacity and resources on simulation-based programs with focus on improving hands-on training opportunities for medical students, and those engaged in ongoing learning at academic institutions.
For successful applicants to this campaign, the simulators and learning materials will be distributed free of cost; however associated costs including but not limited to shipping, import taxes and custom duties will be paid by the receiver.
