My product has developed white deposits and has lost transparency. How can I correct this?

Limescale (or calcium carbonate) is a white, chalky build-up caused by hard water (water with a high mineral content) and it is common throughout the world. Reprocessing equipment using hard water can cause limescale to form on the equipment. If this is a constant problem, consider using rainwater for reprocessing equipment.

If you product has become coated in limescale, please do the following:

  1. Immerse in equal parts water and white vinegar (3-5%) for ten minutes.
  2. Rinse in clean water.
  3. Repeat if necessary.

Some of my silicone products have become discolored. What can I do to prevent this?

The silicone rubber network can absorb organic matter from the environment (such as blood, tissue, and soap) at a molecular level. If the silicone rubber is exposed to certain chemicals, such as calcium hypochlorite or sodium hypochlorite (bleach), before organic matter is removed, then the organic matter may degrade within the rubber network and a yellow discoloration will occur. Prolonged exposure to chemicals can also degrade the silicone rubber and result in a stickiness.

To prevent this discoloration and to increase the lifetime of your device, we recommend the following:

  • Immediately rinse products in soap and water after use.
  • Remove all visible soil before reprocessing them with chemicals/autoclaving.
  • Do not soak in chemical disinfectants longer than recommended.
  • Do not boil/steam products with rusty metal instruments.
  • If your products become brown following boiling, consider changing your water source to rainwater.
  • Avoid exposure to petrochemical fumes.

Laerdal Light – Charging troubleshooting

If you are experiencing problems charging your Laerdal Light: 

  1. Try to charge the Laerdal Light normally
  2. If the charge indicator doesn't blink green after 15 minutes, try to power on the light with the charge cable connected
  3. Disconnect the charge cable and wait 1 minute
  4. Connect the charge cable again
  5. If the charge indicator doesn't blink green after 15 minutes, try to power on the light with the charge cable connected
  6. Disconnect the charge cable and wait 1 minute
  7. Connect the charge cable again
  8. If the charge indicator doesn't blink green after 15 minutes, give up this Laerdal Light
  9. If the charge indicator starts blinking green, charge for 1-2 hours
