Apply for MamaNatalie simulators

ICM (International Confederation of Midwives) and Laerdal Global Health are inviting midwives’ associations that are members of ICM to submit project proposals to receive MamaNatalie simulators. These simulators are used to prepare midwives and other healthcare personnel to manage birth complications like postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) along with Helping Mothers Survive (HMS) Bleeding After Birth Complete learning materials.

Every year, more than 300,000 women die from birth complications. PPH, commonly defined as blood loss of 500 ml or more within 24 hours after birth, is the leading cause of maternal mortality worldwide, accounting for over 20% of all maternal deaths reported globally. Death from PPH is largely preventable yet women in low and middle-income countries continue to be disproportionately affected. Most maternal deaths from PPH occur in sub-Saharan Africa and south Asia (WHO, 2024). Simulation based training can help midwives' capacity and competence to provide maternal care and to confidently identify, prevent and manage PPH.

Our Partnership

Laerdal Global health has partnered with ICM to support ICM member associations to grow, strengthen and to promote continuity of midwife care. By submitting a project proposal that outlines how a midwives’ association would use a MamaNatalie birthing simulator, we aim to encourage midwives’ associations to grow, while improving health outcomes for women and newborns.  These projects can help midwives’ associations strengthen their capacity for offering training programmes, making associations more sustainable

The goal of this partnership is to distribute MamaNatalie - a birthing simulator designed for training both normal delivery and postpartum complications along with complementary learning materials (Helping Mothers Survive Bleeding After Birth complete, HMS BABC) where they will have a catalytic effect, either kicking off new projects that enhance midwives' capacity and competence to provide care or increasing the reach and impact of existing projects to grow, strengthen and promote continuity of midwife care models.

We are inviting ICM member associations to submit project proposals on how they will use the MamaNatalie birthing simulator and accompanying HMS BABC learning materials. The simulators and learning materials will be distributed free of cost; however associated costs including but not limited to shipping, import taxes and custom duties will be paid by the receiver.
