Mama-U Postpartum Uterus Trainer

• The model has all relevant anatomical features like fundus, cervix and perineum along with possibility to extend the uterus (relevant for insertion of postpartum IUD).
• The uterine angle can be changed by applying pressure to the model.
• It is possible to practice “blinded” placements and lift cover of the uterus to evaluate placement.
• Together with Sister-U, Mama-U was designed to complement family planning trainings and act as counselling aids for healthcare workers.

Winner of Saving Lives at Birth Grant

Mama-U, as a part of Jhpiego’s project “Reinvigorating the PPIUD using a low cost simulation model” in Pakistan, won a prestigious Saving Lives at Birth grant. Study results showed increased confidence of healthcare workers in providing PPIUCD, high user-friendliness and acceptability with the use of Mama-U, and increased adoption rate of PPIUCD by women who were counseled with Mama-U.
