Spotlight on: With Women Project, Cameroon

Led by Midwife, Lecturer and long-time advocate of simulation-based education, Rachel Bennett, the With Women Project in Cameroon aims to meet the local training and resourcing needs of midwives and birth attendants so that they can effectively care for birthing women and newborn babies.
The project is focussed in Limbe, a district in the South West of the country, where disruption to the health care system and ongoing civil crises have led to lack of access to free healthcare, few skilled health workers and families being displaced due to conflict. It has been estimated that in some of the rural areas, the maternal mortality rate is as high as 25%. This means that 1 in 4 women may die around the time of birth. The infant mortality in this district is also very high at approximately 50 deaths per 1,000 live births.
In this video, Rachel describes the project and role Laerdal Global Health simulators have played in it, so far.
