A evidence-based training program by Jhpiego based on the latest WHO guidelines to teach birth attendants the lifesaving skills on how to manage and control pre-eclampsia & eclampsia, the second leading cause of maternal deaths.
Helping Mothers Survive Pre-Eclampsia & Eclampsia (HMS PE&E) is part of the evidence-based suite of training programs called Helping Mothers Survive.
The HMS PE&E curriculum includes:
Two simple, pictorial, step-by-step wall charts. The first poster outlines the detection, classification and initial care, and the second poster outlines the management and advanced care of pre-eclampsia and eclampsia.
An educational tool to assist and guide instructors to train healthcare providers in detection, classification and management of pre-eclampsia and eclampsia.
An educational guide and quality improvement tool for healthcare providers to detect, classify and manage pre-eclampsia and eclampsia to be used in preparation for, during and after course completion.
MgSO4 dosing and monitoring checklist, and MgSO4 monitoring chart for use with partograph or postpartum record.
A medication table for helping mothers and babies survive pre-eclampsia and eclampsia.

If you want to hold an HMS PE&E training, you need the HMS PE&E curriculum and the following:
HMS PE&E is designed to be delivered at the jobsite. The first day can be used to train all team members who interact with pregnant, labouring, and post-partum women who need to diagnose and treat rapidly. The second day is intended for skilled birth attendants to enhance their ability for ongoing management of the pre-eclamptic or eclamptic woman.
